Mr. Joseph Kwabena Koranteng
The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development has been commended for introducing the National Sanitation Day programme by which nation-wide clean-up exercises are organized to conscientize the populace to ensure environmental cleanliness to prevent avoidable diseases and filth.

The Ashanti Regional Coordinator of Guidance and Counseling at the Ghana Education Service, Joseph Koranteng who gave the commendation has therefore encouraged the sector Minister and the interest bodies to however recognize the unavoidable fact that some of the people will at all

cost resist and mock the National Sanitation Day which is for their own good.

It is in a similar circumstance that the Ministry finds itself as it tries to promote and sustain the national clean-up campaign.

Mr. Koranteng was addressing second cycle students in Kumasi at the launch of this year’s Ashanti Regional Student Representatives Week.

The 18th Ashanti SRC’s Annual Week celebration is on the theme: “A Comprehensive Look into Indiscipline at All Levels in Ghana”.

The Guidance and Counseling Coordinator stressed emphasized that even though it is very easy for just anyone to criticize initiatives, it however takes visionary and bold people to do the right thing, condemn and damn such characters without compromising the positive initiatives for the sake of posterity.

Mr. Koranteng therefore asked the organizers and city authorities not to relent in their efforts to do away with the slums in society so as to enhance security, while providing alternative marking centres for itinerant traders to continue with their economic activities.

Mr. Koranteng noted that most of the problems Ghana is currently facing are the direct results of indiscipline that has been tolerated for years.

He described as ridiculous for a Ghanaian to be law abiding and cooperative in another country only to return to Ghana to ignore similar laws that are meant to create a better and civilized society.

The Guidance and Counseling Coordinator called for a positive attitudinal change among Ghanaians so as to ensure national development.
