NATIONAL SERVICE PERSONNEL ASKED TO BE PATRIOTIC

The Ashanti regional Secretariat of the National Service Scheme has started what it calls, an Interface programme, by which senior staff at the Secretariat are giving orientation to prospective National Service personnel in all the tertiary educational institutions in the Ashanti region.

At one of such meetings with final year students of the Christian Service University College in Kumasi, the Regional Director of the Scheme, Kwesi Quainoo explained that among the key concepts of the National Service is to make the youth the effective vehicle for national unity and integration to fight xenophobia, tribalism and ethnocentricism that have undermined the peace of some African countries.

Additionally, the Scheme is mandated to properly groom the Ghanaian youth to become not just responsible adults and leaders in society, but genuine patriots and nationalists.

Mr. Quainoo noted that it is for these reasons that since its introduction, the Scheme has always insisted on posting National Service personnel to regions and districts either than their home regions and districts, with the intention of engendering cross cultures.

The NSS Regional Director therefore  appealed to the prospective National Service personnel for the 2015/2016 Service Year to willingly accept postings to especially the deprived communities anywhere in the country and impact on those societies, adding that one of the mandates of the NSS is to help bridge the rural-urban gap in terms of socio-economic development.

Mr. Quainoo asked also the prospective Service personnel to gear up to be good ambassadors of the National Service Scheme by conforming to the laid down work place policies of their host companies.
