KNUST SIGNS MoU WITH INSTITUTIONS
Three tertiary institutions have signed a
memorandum of understanding to affiliate with the Kwame Nkrumah University of
Science and Technology in Kumasi.
They
are the Ensign College of Public Health at Kpong and Akyem State University
College at Akyem Oda both at the Eastern Region, and Kessben College at Kuntanase
in the Bosomtwe District of Ashanti.
All the three institutions have satisfied
the requirements of affiliation for a period of four years and is subject to
renewal, based on the strict compliance with rules and conditions outlined for
them.
Among the basic requirements are adequate infrastructure, conducive
academic environment, quality teaching and non-teaching staff, entry
requirements and award of certificates and degrees.
The Ensign College of
Public Health, which will train students in Public Health, Statistics and Engineering and Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration will be
inaugurated in April this year, while academic Degrees in Accounting and Human
Resource are the major programmes run at the Akyem State University College.
The Kessben College has programmes such as,
Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Business Administration, English Studies
and Information and Communication Technology.
Most of the teaching and non-teaching
staff of the Kessben College including its President, Professor Stephen Osei
are retirees from the KNUST.
About 36
tertiary institutions from within and outside Ghana are affiliated to the KNUST
because of its vast academic experience.
The Vice Chancellor of the KNUST,
Prof. William Otoo Ellis denied media reports that the university exploits the
various educational institutions it is mentoring.
He said a joint committee is
always established between the University and the affiliated institutions to
share ideas and to ensure that resources are utilized for the mutual benefit of
the institutions.
Prof. Ellis called on the management of the various institutions
to ensure that they keep to the tenets of the agreements and never engage in
acts that will damage the already cordial relations that exist between them.
