REACH OUT TO RURAL FOLKS, MUSLIMS-REV. OPUNI FRIMPONG

The General Secretary of the Christian Council of Ghana, Reverend Dr. Kwabena Opuni-Frimpong has appealed to churches in the country step up efforts in reaching the rural and Islam dominated areas with the gospel of Jesus Christ.

He said most churches in Ghana today are only concentrating in the urban centres, while the rural and Islam dominated areas have been left out in their missionary work.

Speaking at the National Ministers’ Conference of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, in Kumasi, Rev. Dr. Opuni-Frimpong said some churches have described their unwillingness to reach out in these areas because they will not get financial and physical returns, while it is expensive to do missionary work there.

He observed that most countries in the West Africa sub-region are Islam dominated and are all making efforts to penetrate Ghana and Liberia, the only countries having strong Christian presence.

According to Rev. Dr Opuni-Frimpong, while Muslims are striving to penetrate the Christian dominated areas, churches in Ghana for instance are gradually becoming city-based and urban centered.

He reminded churches that their missionary work is to all humankind and should endeavour to extend evangelization to the underserved areas of the country.

Rev. Dr Opuni-Frimpong also called on the Ministry of Education to review the Computer Schools Selection and Placement System, which has been fraught with confusion on the part of parents and senior high school authorities every year.

He noted that while parents complain about wrong placement of their wards, senior high school authorities on the other hand complain about the number of students placed in their schools.

They situation according to Rev. Dr. Opuni-Frimpong has been an annual headache for both parents and schools and called for challenges associated with the Computer Schools Selection and Placement System to be urgently addressed to make it a success.
