FIRE SERVICE SAVES FUEL STATION FROM BLAZE

The timely intervention by the personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service at Ejisu in Ashanti saved JO/JU Filling Station at Akyawkrom near the Anita Hotel on the Kumasi-Accra highway from a fire outbreak.

The fire believed to have been started by a farmer behind the filling station caught the attention of the fuel attendants who quickly rang the Fire Service and personnel from the Ejisu station responded quickly to bring it under control.

It took the personnel a little over an hour to quench the fire which had destroyed some farms and other kiosks cited on the roadside.

Property destroyed including food crops and the kiosks are yet to be quantified, but it is estimated at several thousands of Ghana Cedis.

A source at the Filling Station told our correspondent that the fire was spotted just behind the station’s wall when a man was heard shouting for help to bring the fire under control.

The source expressed appreciation for the support given by the fire service personnel saying the farmer who allegedly set the fire will be handed over to the police.

Meanwhile victims of last Saturday fire disaster at the Dagomba Line, a suburb of Kumasi have appealed to the government and National Disaster Management Organization to assist them with either cash or in kind to help them put up their structures.

A visit to the site by our correspondent saw some of the victims trying to reconstruct the burnt structures while others were seen still counting their losses.

A victim, Mohammed Awal who claimed to be Mobile Phone dealer and had stayed at the area for five years was grateful that at least, government officials led by the Regional Minister Peter Anarfi Mensah had visited the victims and consoled with them.

He believed they will honour their promise to resettle the victims on time.
