FULANI NOMAD KILLS FETISH PRIEST
The
Police in the Asante Akyem North district of Ashanti have begun a frantic
search for a nomadic herdsman in connection with the alleged murder of a fetish
priest of Asante Akyem Agogo yesterday, Monday January 11.
The fetish priest named as Komfo Badu was allegedly shot
and killed instantly on his farm at Kowerieso in the Afram Plains portion of
the Asante Akyem North district a few minutes before the arrival of the security
team which was patrolling the area of the incident.
The District Chief
Executive, Paul Averu who confirmed the incident to Ashanti Today in an
interview, said the security personnel have intensified their search for the
suspect.
According to the DCE, Komfo Badu was shot just on his arrival on his farm where the cattle of the perpetrator was said to be grazing for reasons yet to be established.
Mr. Averu said a meeting has already been scheduled among himself as the Chairman of the District Security Committee, the District Police Command and the leadership of the nomadic herdsmen on Friday to discuss and address concerns being raised about the influx of additional roving herdsmen into the district.
Notwithstanding the latest security development, he said the meeting will still take place as scheduled to find lasting solutions to the Fulani-citizens friction which has been lingering for many years now.
