GJA COMMENDS ASHANTI JOURNALISTS

The Acting Ashanti Regional Chairperson of the Ghana Journalists Association, Mrs. Elizabeth Kankam Boadu has commended journalists in the region for working hard and contributing their quota to the current democratic dispensation and socio-economic development prevailing in the country.

This is because 2015 saw them inching towards a more responsible press since their work attracted fewer post-publication criticisms, rebuttals or denials.

Again, much more attention was centred on the filing of developmental stories.

Making the commendation at the end of year party of the Regional GJA branch in Kumasi, Mrs. Kankam Boadu said though the outcome of such efforts within one year cannot be quantified, there have been some level of progress and the impact of a responsible media in the Ashanti Region and Ghana as a whole cannot be over-emphasized.

She noted that these developments, in the area of adherence to professional and ethical standards, have stemmed from the fact that more media practitioners worked against the odds to upgrade themselves academically and professionally.

Mrs. Kankam Boadu appealed to the Regional Minister to assist the regional branch of GJA to complete its press centre, which has reached the roofing stage, describing the appeal as a critical need which would help facilitate the work of the press during this year’s general elections.

She also appealed to the National Executive Committee of the GJA to allow the regional branch some independence by ceding some money to it to offset some operational costs and overheads.

Mrs. Kankam Boadu called on media event organizers to show some dignity and decency to media practitioners by providing decent vehicles to convey them to and from event sites.
