2ND MILITARY HOSPITAL ON COURSE

Contractors executing Ghana’s second Military Hospital at Afari in the Atwima Nwabiagya district of Ashanti have given a firm assurance that the project will be delivered by December this year as originally scheduled.

Even though work on the project is currently about 45 per cent complete, the Resident Ingineer of Euroget De-Invest, Islam Sharawy has assured the people of Ghana that his company has no option than to deliver a high quality ultra modern military healthcare facility as planned without any excuses.

A visit by our News Team in the Ashanti region to the project site of the 500-bed hospital showed that the project is progressing steadily.

The second Military Hospital is one of the eight hospitals being built by the government in the Ashanti region.

The others are a 500-bed Teaching Hospital for the KNUST at Boadi, a 250-bed new Regional Hospital at Sawua in the Bosomtwe district and district hospitals at Tepa, Kumawu, Asante Bekwai and Adansi Fomena.

Actual works on the 180 million Dollar 500-bed Military Hospital which is under the supervision of the Ministry of Defence began in October 2014, seven months later than the scheduled date. T

he delay in the late start of the works was due to variations in the original project designs as a result of the refusal of occupants of parts of the land to relocate.

The entire project is situated on a 260 thousand square kilometer land at Afari near Nkawie in the Atwima Nwabiagya district.

The second Military Hospital, on completion, will provide very comprehensive health and health-related care for people not only in the Ashanti region, but the whole of the northern sector of Ghana in addition to parts of the Western region.

It will provide a great relief to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital which is currently the only tertiary hospital in the Ashanti and Brong Ahafo regions and therefore is seriously congested.

The complete Hospital will comprise 154 staff housing units, officers mess, an Accident and Emergency Centre with a helipad for emergency helicopter landing, an Intensive Care Unit, Surgical Suit, Burns Treatment Unit, endoscopy, Ambulance Station, Reproductive Health Unit, Out Patient Department, Inpatient Wards, VIP ward, Tropical and Isolation Ward, a Mortuary, Water and Sewage Treatment Plant, a mini market, shops and a reserved land for future expansion projects.

Out of the 650 workers engaged, alare Ghanaians with the majority of them being indigenes of the project’s catchment area who are also making a strong case for the Ghanaian as a reliable human resource for project execution.

The contractors will, upon completion, provide training on the efficient and effective management of the facility and the new systems employed as well as a substantial period of guarantee.

The Resident Engineer of Euroget De-Invest, Mr. Islam Sharawy gave the assurance that his company is neither going to compromise on quality nor give excuses in meeting the project’s timeline of December 2016.

The Atwima Nwabiagya District Chief Executive, Nana Asare Bediako, was happy about the progress and quality of the work done so far. He also pledged his support to the contractors to meet the deadline for completion.
