Ashanti Today's opinion sampling of residents of the Ashanti regional capital, Kumasi has revealed a mixed public reaction to President John Dramani Mahama's dismissal of the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Samuel Sarpong, and his Deputy, Joseph Yamin.

While one shade of opinion received the news of the dismissal of Dr. Sarpong in particular with shock, others believe the decision of the President is long overdue considering the bad blood that has existed between the two top political authorities in the region in recent times.

Dismissed Dpty Ash Reg'l Min. Joseph Yamin
President Mahama, in a statement signed and issued by the Minister for Communications, Dr. Omane Boamah late yesterday, relieved the two politicians of their duties as the Regional Minister and the Deputy Regional Minister.

No reason was officially assigned for the dismissal but the statement said, the Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, Eric Opoku has been directed to act as the Ashanti Regional Minister until a substantive Regional Minister and Deputy are appointed.

In the opinion sampled, some of the respondents said the news came to them as a surprise with one of them saying that she only heard of it when she arrived at the office.

In her view, the President should have offered the reasons for his decision and believes that Dr. Sarpong had done well in his official duties without any blame.

On the other hand, one shade of opinion was believes that their dismissal has taken too long in view of the fact that they have proven that they cannot co-exist or work together peacefully, a pre-requisit for effective leadership and development.
