AGRIEVED YOUTH LOCK UP NDC OFFICES

A
group calling itself the Coalition of splinter groups within the NDC in the
Ashanti region has locked out the Regional Executives of the party from
accessing the regional offices in Kumasi.
In furtherance of their displeasure
at the state of affairs in the party, the group has again declared its resolve
to undertake a peaceful street demonstration in the Ashanti regional capital,
Kumasi, on the 9th of this month to draw the attention of the hierarchy
of the NDC to their concerns in the interest of the entire party.
The aggrieved
members, who wore red arm bands, later loitered around the Ashanti Regional
Coordinating Council but could not meet any official as a result of an official
engagement of the officials at the RCC.
When contacted, one of them, who claims
to be the Spokesperson of the Coalition, Issah Seidu, said the Coalition
comprises 12 of the splinter groups within the party who have continually
sacrificed their lives for the growth of the NDC in the region.
These groups
include the NDC Motor Riders and Balshata.
According to Mr. Seidu, it is incomprehensible
that the re-elected Ashanti Regional Chairman of the party, Yaw Obimpeh, is
refusing to unite all the interest groups in the party that emerged during the
recent regional elections.
He claimed that the current regional Executives have
planned to shatter the re-election ambition of President John Mahama and are
deliberately working against his efforts for which reason, the Executives are shirking
their core responsibilities.
The Coalition expressed surprise also that when
the aggrieved members went to the regional office of the party to lock it up as
at 11.30
am today, Monday March 3, none of the elected Executives had reported to
work, thereby giving credence to the assertion that they are not working.
The
Spokesperson claimed also that since the return of the NDC to government in
2009, Mr. Obimpeh as the regional Chairman of the party, has consistently
rejected any appointee for the post of the Regional Minister thereby always
creating confusion in the party.
Mr. Seidu claimed that long after the recent
elections, Mr. Obimpeh continues to sideline anyone who did not support his bid
to retain the position, a situation he considers to be inimical to the chances
of the party in the region.
When contacted separately, both the Regional
Secretary, Raymond Tannor, and the Regional Communication Officer, Samed
Akalilu told Ashanti Today that they had also heard of the mob action but were
yet to visit the office to ascertain the situation.
They both confirmed that an
emergency Regional Executives meeting was to be convened in the day to consider
the agitations and fashion out the way forward.
