GHANA HIGHWAY AUTHORITY TO INSIST ON VALUE FOR MONEY
The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana
Highways Authority, Michael Abieteh Abbey, has assured that the Authority will intensify
road inspection and project supervision activities to ensure that projects are
executed to specifications to guarantee value for money.
Also, consultants who
engage to supervise road projects commit themselves to their responsibilities
to ensure that contractors execute and deliver road projects on time and to
specifications.
Mr. Abbey said this at the opening of a three-day Management performance
Review Conference of the Ghana Highways Authority at Sefwi Wiawso in the
Western Region.
The Conference was attended by various key stakeholders in the
roads sector to review their performance in 2014 and to discuss how best to
improve upon their leadership and Managerial skills.
The event was on the
theme: “Providing Effective Leadership in the Era of Dwindling Resources for
Operations”.
Mr. Abbey said the
objective to ensure value for money in the execution of road works, the Authority’s
Monitoring and Evaluation Team will intensify its visits to road projects across
the country to verify the quality of road works in relation to specifications.
The
Authority’s CEO mentioned inadequate budgetary allocations, delay payments for
works done and insufficient logistics for supervisory works on projects as some
of the challenges the staff have had to endure.
Mr. Abbey however commended government,
development partners and all the relevant institutions for their respective
contributions towards the achievement of the sector objectives.
