The Serwaa Ampem Foundation for Children,
a subsidiary of the Otumfuo Charity Foundation, has presented assorted items
valued at 16 thousand, 850 Ghana Cedis to two institutions in the Ashanti
region in line with its social responsibility towards the vulnerable in
society.
The beneficiary institutions are the Suntreso Government Hospital
which received items such as mattresses, colour a television set, a
refrigerator, dispensing and examination tables and playing materials to stock
the newly constructed Children’s Ward.
The items were presented by the Chief
Executive of the Serwaa Ampem Foundation for Children, Lady Julia Osei Tutu,
who is also the wife of the Asantehene.
She explained that the donation is in
response to a formal request made by officials of the Hospital for the assistance
of the Foundation.
Lady Julia Osei Tutu, before the presentation, visited some
of the Wards and interacted with, as well as introduced to the patients and
also toured the new Children’s Ward where it came to light that indeed, the
Ward lacks the necessary facilities such as mattresses to function well.
She commanded
the staff of the Hospital for their hardwork saying that they only need to
sacrifice themselves to meet the healthcare needs of the people since the state’s
reward for their efforts may not be enough to commensurate their service.
The
Medical Director of the Hospital, Nana Adu Akomeah who received the items on
behalf of the facility, thanked the Foundation, especially Lady Julia Osei Tutu
for responding positively to their request for help.
Another institution that
also benefited from the philanthropy is the Garden City Special School for intellectually
handicapped children at Asokore Mampong near Kumasi.
Lady Julia Osei Tutu
handed over study and playing materials procured by the Foundation over to the
management.
The items are tables, chairs, mattresses and playing materials. She
presented also, a number of bags of rice and crates of soft drinks to the staff
and children.
At the same function, the Bantama Traders Association also presented
a quantity of assorted foodstuffs to the school for the good of the children.
The items included vegetables, fruits, root tubers and palm fruits.
On behalf
of the school, the Headmistress, Dr. Mrs. Roselyn Frimpomaa Agyapong and the
Asokore Mamponghene, Nana Boakye Ansah Debrah thanked the Serwaa Ampem
Foundation for Children as well as the market women for their respective
gestures which according to them, have come at an opportune time, especially as
the Easter festivities fast approach.
They also asked for more of such philanthropic
gestures to help in the running of the school.
