AMA FOSUHEMAA LAID TO REST

The mortal remains of the late Ama Fosuhemaa lying in state
Mortal remains of the late Beatrice Kusi-Appiah of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation have been laid to rest at her hometown, Bogyawe near Asante Bekwai in the Ashanti region.

The late Madam Kusi-Appiah, popularly known on radio in the Ashanti as Ama Fosuhemaa, passed away at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital after a short illness a month ago.

The late Ama Fosuhemaa, also known as ‘Obaa Feefe’, aged 56, was employed by the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation in December 1998 and stationed in Kumasi where she produced and presented a number of programmes on the Ashanti regional FM station of the Corporation, Garden City Radio.

She rose from her initial rank as a Programme Assistant to become an Assistant Manager and  presented  various programmes such  as ‘Kumasi Mo Nsom’, ‘Mmofra Kyepen’ a children-oriented weekly programme, ‘Ewiase Ye Sum’ and ‘Bo Me Nkommo’.

She also had a short stint with the Radio Newsroom in Kumasi and contributed to both the local and Radio Ghana News bulletins.

She was later transferred to the Corporate Affairs Division of the Corporation and was the Head of the Kumasi Unit.

In 2004, Madam, Ama Fosuhemaa contested in the Parliamentary elections as an Independent candidate for the Asante Bekwai Constituency. Against all odds, she polled more than eight thousand votes.

The GBC sent a large representation led by the Acting Ashanti Regional Director, Alex Dadzie-Bonney at the pre- burial service held in Kumasi where the staff paid their last respect to her memory.

In a tribute, her son, Henry Amakye Ansah, described death of his mother as the most painful and anxious thing to have ever happened to him.

GBC’s tribute read by Ms. Ophelia Okyere Acheampong praised the  late Ama Fosuhemaa for initiating what has now become Garden City Radio’s annual donation to orphans, widows and other marginalized members of the society adding that she has genuinely paid her due to both country and humanity.

In a sermon,  Elder Paul Adusei of the Church of Pentecost reminded the living that regardless of the amount of possessions or the fame anyone earns, he or she stills requires the acceptance of Jesus Christ as the personal Lord and Saviour  to be guaranteed eternal peaceful rest.

There was another large delegation of the GBC from Accra, led by Kofi Sarkwa at the final funeral rites to exhibit the sympathy and solidarity of the rank and file of GBC to the bereaved family, particularly the son.
