KNUST IMPROVES DISTANCE LEARNING WITH NEW FACILITIES

The Institute of Distance Learning of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology has inaugurated a number of electronic learning projects as part of efforts to elevate the module and improve the general academic environment through advanced technology.

They are an E-learning studio with two smart detached control units, a 30-seater mini-conference room and a 120-seater ultra-modern conference centre which also has an in-built five-seater bench video conferencing facility.

Apart from the main conference centre, which was fully financed by the government under the auspices of the National Information Technology Agency, NITA, the rest were financed by the Institute from its internally generated funds. It took three years to complete the projects.

The Acting Director of the Institute, Professor I.K Dontwi said the objective of the projects is to redefine the face and scope of learning by distance to meet international standards and attract more non-Ghanaian students and other professionals.

The Vice-Chancellor of the KNUST, Professor William Otoo Ellis lauded the projects saying that they truly reflect the status of the university as a leading science and technology institution.

He commended government for its continuous investments towards the realization of the institution’s mission whilst applauding the university’s Directorate of Works and Physical Development as well as its Information Technology Services for their combined efforts towards the timely and successful realization of the projects.
