FREQUENT CHANGES AT YOUTH AND SPORTS MINISTRY DETRIMENTAL TO YOUTH DEVELOPMENT-EX CPP CHAIR
A veteran politician Samuel Danso
has expressed concern about frequent changes at the sports ministry which is
not in the best interest of the nation.
According to him, the instability at
the ministry has the potential to dislocate and negatively affect policies and
programmes at the ministry that is very crucial to the nation’s development,
especially among the youth.
In his latest reshuffle, President Mahama once again, replaced the Minister of Youth and Sports, Mahama Ayariga, with Dr. Mustapha Ahmed, a Minister of State at the Presidency.
His predecessor has since been pushed to the Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovations.
Reacting to the current ministerial reshuffle that
affected some of the ministries particularly the Youth and Sports, Mr. Danso could
not understand why the Sports Ministry has always been a target and therefore
called on the President to critically investigate the causes of the instability
and find a lasting solution to the problem instead of frequent changes of ministers.
He was speaking to GBC's Garden City Radio in Kumasi.
The
renowned Politician believes lack of effective coordination and consultation
between the government appointees who are the ministers and the permanent civil servants
may be a possible reason.
He said some politicians underrate the capabilities
of civil servants most of whom are experts on their own rights who have a lot
to offer to make the politician succeed and take the credit.
However, this in
his view is not the case as some of the politicians completely sideline these
experts in the discharge of their duties, the results may be some of the
changes.
Mr. Danso pointed out that politics is about delivering to meet the
expectation of the electorate, and that as much as the government tries to
implement policies and programmes to win the public confidence, there is the
need to bring all hands on board and never relegate any contribution to the
background as that cost the government dearly.
On the appointment of new
Ministers by the president, Mr. Danso said that is the president’s prerogative,
saying apart from the Cabinet members that the constitution has put a sealing,
there is no limitation on the number of ministers to be appointed.
What is
important is how the government discharges its mandate during his tenure to
meet public expectation.
