Members of the Ahafo Ano South District
Mr. Gabriel Barimah-Ahafo Ano South DCE |
At an
extra-ordinary Meeting of the Assembly at Mankranso, the district capital, 62
out of the total of 65 votes cast endorsed the nomination of Mr. Barima.
Soon
afterwards, the District Assembly premises was thrown into a frenzy as the
members of the sizeable crowd who had thronged the place to witness the voting
process jumped into jubilation following the endorsement.
The voting process,
which was supervised by officials of the Electoral Commission and attended by
the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Samuel Sarpong and his Deputy, Joseph Yamin,
was very smooth without any negative incident. Also present were a significant
number of the Municipal and District Chief Executives in the Ashanti region who
went there to support their former colleague. Similarly, some members of the
newly elected Ashanti Regional Executives of the ruling NDC were there to show
their solidarity to Mr. Barimah.
After the endorsement, Mr. Barimah thanked the
President, John Dramani Mahama for giving him another opportunity to serve his
people. He also thanked the Assembly Members of the show of trust and confidence
in his ability to lead them to champion socio-economic development of the
district and pledged his commitment to live up to responsibility.
The Ashanti
Regional Minister, Dr. Sarpong commended the Assembly Members for placing the
interest of the development of the area above parochial and partisan
consideration. He entreated them to work together to advance the socio-economic
development of the district.
In March this year, President Mahama relieved Mr.
Barimah of his post as the DCE for Ahafo Ano South in Ashanti for allegedly bragging
and claiming right to a slang Tweaa and showing tantrum in reaction to a
negative comment by a participant at a health staff durbar at Mankranso. That
was after the President had earlier reprimanded him for his outburst at the
event. However, following pleas by sections of the public including traditional
and muslim leaders from the district for
a pardon, President Mahama re-nominated him for that
post.
