FORMER TRADE MINISTER CHASTISES PARLIAMENT OVER CHINESE FURNITURE

Mr. Dan Abodakpi-Fmr Trade Mi
A former Minister for Trade and Industry, Dan Abodakpi has expressed strong reservation about the procurement of office furniture and other logistics meant for re-configuration of the Parliament House from China, rather than giving the first option to local manufacturers.
The decision, according to him, is an affront to the quest to encourage consumption of locally made goods and food to stimulate the national economy.
Speaking in an interview with GBC’s Garden City Radio in Kumasi, Mr. Abodapki, who is also a former Ghana’s Ambassador to Malaysia, noted that patronage of locally produced food and goods can significantly help in strengthening the local currency against the foreign ones, create jobs for the people as wells as reduce importation that has negative consequence on the economic growth.
Mr. Abodakpi, who is among the four persons running for the National Chairmanship of the NDC, also expressed regret about the governance style of Ghana.
He said a change in government should not lead to change in the overall national socio-economic development. He expressed regret that changeovers in governments in Ghana in recent years have resulted in abandoning of certain important national programmes and projects that were initiated by previous governments.
He commended the NPP government for implementing the plan to create a free port at Boankra in the Ashanti region.
The project, according to him, is his initiative when he was the Trade and Industry Minister. He regretted however, that the project has stalled following the exit of the NPP government.
Mr. Abodakpi therefore encouraged all future governments to complete projects started by their predecessors in the interest of speedy national socio-economic development.
