NDC ELECTS NEW ASHANTI REGIONAL EXECUTIVES

The ruling National Democratic Congress, NDC has held its Ashanti Regional Conference in Kumasi during which new Executives were elected to manage affairs of the party in the next four years.

The new Regional Executives a blend of old and new faces as a reflection of the choice of the 474 delegates.

The incumbent Regional Chairman, Mr. Yaw Owusu Obimpeh emerged the winner by defeating his closest contender, Mr. Thomas Kwabena Braimah, a Kumasi-based businessman and one Mr. Dominic Anomah.

In the race for the Regional Secretary, Mr. Raymond Tandoh had an overwhelming number of votes against his only contender,  a retired FIFA Referee, Mr. Mike Amedior. Mr. Tandoh has been the Acting Regional Secretary of the party since the appointment of his boss, Mr. Joseph Yamin as the Deputy Sports Minister and now Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister while Mr. Amedior is the current Ashanti Regional Director of the Non-Formal Education Division of the Ghana Education Service.

Mr. Kwame Azu was elected as the new Deputy Regional Secretary of the party.

For the Vice Regional Chairmanship race, Mr. Augustus Andrew unseated one of the two incumbents,  Mr.Abayie to become the first Regional Chairman. The Second Vice Chairmanship slot went to the incumbent, Mr. Ativor Sawyer.

For the Regional Organizer slot, the incumbent, Alhaji Sanie Junior was retained with Isham Alhassan as his Deputy.

In the race for the Regional Propaganda Secretary, Samed Akalilu, a former Communication Studies student of the Christian Service University College in Kumasi, unseated the incumbent, Mr. Justice Alfa while Mr. Solomon Anane was elected as his Deputy.
 The Regional Treasurer position was given to Alhaji Ibrahim Justice with Madam Ama Ramson as his Deputy.

A week earlier at their mini regional conference held at Akomadan in the Offinso North district, the incumbent Regional Youth Organizer, Mr. Anthony Kwaku Boahen lost to his only challenger, Mr. Ernest Brogya Genfi, a memebr of the National Communications Team of the Government. Similarly, the incumbent Women Organizer, Madam Ama Sarpomaa lost to her former Deputy, Hajia Hawa Seidu.

At the conference were officials of the Electoral Commission who supervised the elections. Also present were key members of the party like the General Secretary, Mr.Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, a former National Organizer, Mr. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, the Regional Minister and his Deputy, Dr. Samuel Sarpong and Joseph Yamin respectively.
