NDC TO DECIDE FATE OF INCUMBENT EXECUTIVES
All is set for the NDC to hold its Ashanti Regional Delegates Conference tomorrow in Kumasi to choose new Executives to run affairs of the party in the next four years.
Already, the Vetting Committee has assessed all the applicants for the
various positions on offer. Apart from only one of them who applied for the
Deputy Regional Treasurer slot, all the other applicants have been passed to
contest for their respective interested positions at tomorrow’s Conference.
Three members are contesting for the Regional Chairmanship. They are the
incumbent, Yaw Owusu Obimpeh, a Kumasi-based businessman, Thomas Kwabena
Braimah and one Dominic Anomah.
For the
Regional Vice Chairmanship slot, as many as nine members of the party are
contesting.
Two members are in the race for the Regional Secretary. Raymond
Tannor, the Acting Regional Secretary is battling it out with a retired FIFA
Referee, Mike Amedior, who is also the Ashanti Regional Director of the
Non-Formal Education Division with four others competing for the Deputy
Regional Secretary.
Six persons are in the contest for the Regional Organizer while
the Deputy position has seven persons seeking to win that race.
For the
Regional Treasurer race, three applicants have been passed by the Vetting
Committee to contest with three others also in the contest for the Deputy.
The
Regional Propaganda and Deputy positions are being contested for by three and
eight persons in that order.
A total of 474 delegates are expected to cast
their votes to choose the next leaders. They include delegates from all the 47
Constituencies in the region, serving Minister of State and founding members
who hail from the region.
Speaking to Ashanti Today, the Acting
Regional Secretary, Raymond Tannor said the Conference will be supervised by the
Electoral Commission while a delegation from the National office of the party
will also be in attendance to ensure a successful conduct of the polls. They
include Samuel Ofosu Ampofo.
He expressed the Regional office’s satisfaction
with the conduct of campaign by the contestants so far without any issues of
mudslinging and antagonism.
Mr. Tannor emphasized the fact that the Conference
is an in-house process and therefore advised participants at the Congress to ensure
a peaceful conduct of the Conference.
Already. the party held a mini Conference last week where two incumbent Regional Executive members were deposed. They are Anthony Kwaku Boahene, the then Regional Youth Organizer and Madam Sarpomaa, the then Regional Women Organizer.
Ernest Brogya Genfi is the new Regional Youth Organizer with Hajia Hawa as the new Regional Women Organizer.
What is the fate of the remaining incumbent Regional Executive members? Time will definitely tell. Surely, i will keep you updated after the polls tomorrow.
