REGONAL MINISTER COMMENDS POLICE COMMANDER
There has been a sudden positive public trust and opinion about the Police in the Ashanti region. This follows an enforcement of discipline and professionalism among personnel of the Service within the last nine months. A reports that the Ashanti Today can report authoritatvely of positive development has culminated in reduction in the general crime wave in the region, particularly Kumasi, the regional capital also as a result of an unrelenting attack on deviants by the Police command.
Since assuming office nine months ago as the Regional Police Commander, DCOP Nathan Kofi Boakye has shown real leadership resulting in a transformation of the Regional headquarters which, hitherto, was opened to all manner of people and had become a trading centre.
But, with the support of corporate institutions and philanthropic groups, the entire headquarters has seen a face lift while the personnel now have self and professional discipline and confidence. Following regular swoops organized by the various commands of the Service leading to arrest of a number of suspected criminals, the region is experiencing a relative peace and security as the residents go about their normal duties.
The Regional Minister commended the police command particularly, for taking steps to reclaim all police lands from encroachers. Dr. Sarpong pledged his unflinching support to the Police command in their management of security in the region.
The Regional Police Commander, DCOP Kofi Boakye also lauded the Regional Minister for not interfering in their work, which he acknowledged has significantly helped to reduce crime.
He disclosed that a 300-capacity Conference Hall with all the required modern facilities is being constructed while plans are being made to build 200 residential apartments for staff of the Service at Asokwa in Kumasi to boost the confidence of the personnel.
The projects, according to him, have become possible through the support of corporate entities and therefore expressed gratitude to them.
