BOMB SCARE AT ASH DPTY RM'S RESIDENCE

Information available to the Ashanti Today indicates that a swift intervention by personnel of the Military in the Ashanti region was enough to save the official residence of the Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister, Andy Osei Okrah from an attack from what is said to be a deadly weapon.

The explosives, believed to be bomb and said to be two in number, were allegedly placed at the entrance of the Deputy Minister’s residence at Danyame in Kumasi and were found late yesterday when some family members of Mr. Okrah were at home.

However, a source very close to the Regional Coordinating Council told Ashanti Today that the Deputy Minister was not at home at the time as he had reportedly traveled to Accra on official duties.

Snippets of information picked up indicate that military personnel swiftly responded to a distress call at about 6 pm yesterday during which they cordoned the entire vicinity to restrict movement to and from the area.

According to our source, the suspected explosives were taken away this morning to allow investigation into the circumstances of the matter.

On our visit to the scene this morning, there was a handful of concerned residents, mostly residents of the neighbourhood, as well as some persons believed to be National Security Operatives still around looking confused about the rare security occurrence in a neighbourhood which remains a security Zone as the place also happens to be the location of the Ashanti Regional Secretariat of the National Security.

When contacted, the Assistant Superintendent of Police, Yusif Tanko Mohammed, in charge of the Public Affairs Unit of the Ashanti Regional Police Command said he had no information in relation to the suspected bomb threat.

Both the Ashanti Regional Minister and his Deputy were also said to have traveled when Ashanti Today got to the Regional Administration for official confirmation or otherwise of the information.
