UPP/NPP ALLIANCE OUTDOORED
The Founder, Leader and National Chairman of
the United Progressive Party, UPP, Akwasi Addai, popularly known as Odike, has
officially declared an alliance between his party and the NPP in Kumasi, while
offering his support for the flagbearer of the NPP, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo
in his quest to win next month’s Presidential elections.
Consequently, Odike
has called on the rank and file of the UPP to also join ranks with the NPP and
its campaign activities so as to maximize votes for the party and Nana Akuffo
Addo to ensure that the flagbearer becomes Ghana’s next President.
Also at the
event to declare the alliance were Odike’s Vice Presidential candidate, Yaw
Brogya, some of the 2nd National Vice Chairman of the UPP, Nana
Prempeh, the National Treasurer, Adjei Akrong, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of
the NPP, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, a former Minister of Chieftaincy Affairs,
Sampson Kwaku Boafo as well as the founder of the Independent People’s Party,
Kofi Akpaloo.
In his remarks, Odike explained that his withdrawal from the
Presidential contest was due to frustrations by the Electoral Commission,
saying that the EC’s disqualification of some of the aspirants from this year’s
election was already planned.
According to him, his decision to align with the
NPP was informed by an invitation by Nana Akuffo Addo to him and the UPP to
join ranks with the NPP soon after the EC announced the disqualification.
Odike
noted also that his vision of job creation and building a resilient economy is tied
to that of Nana Akuffo Addo’s.
He said Ghana’s economy is now in a mess and
that the NDC government led by President Mahama has rather prioritized
infrastructural expansion at the expense of the people’s wellbeing, thereby
causing an unbearable socio-economic hardship in the society all because of bad
economic policies.
Odike urged Nana Akuffo Addo and the NPP government, if they
win the elections, to form a synergy of what he calls, ‘critical economic minds’
to ensure an immediate implementation of good policies upon assumption of office,
saying that Ghanaians can no longer tolerate a plea to ‘tighten their belt’ after
the party into power.
Odike promised to woo three more political parties to
align with the NPP before the elections.
The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP,
Bernard Antwi Boasiako, thanked Odike and his party for throwing their weight
behind the NPP and asked members of the NPP to accept them.
He emphasized that
the NPP’s victory in this year’s elections is assured and that nothing can stop
it.
