CHURCH OF CHRIST AT A CROSSROAD-GBC PRINCIPAL

The Principal of the Ghana Bible College, Emmanuel Antwi says the Church of Christ is at a crossroad as a result of adulteration of its doctrine and beliefs by some self-acclaimed Minister of the Church to deceive unsuspecting members of the public.

According to the Principal, some of these Ministers perpetrating this false teaching were dismissed from the Ghana Bible College during their studies for various offences.

Mr. Antwi was speaking at this year’s graduation ceremony of the College in Kumasi during which 45 students were ordained and presented with Certificates.

They pursued two and three year courses in Advanced Diploma in Church and Certificate in Sacred Ministry.

The number brings to one thousand, 240 the figure of Ministers trained by the College since its establishment in 1961.

The Principal urged the Churches of Christ to thoroughly investigate the background of any person they intend to employ as their Minister, so as to weed out the charlatans.

Mr. Antwi charged the new Ministers to prioritize character and attitudinal molding of their members which are the essential requirement for eternal life, rather than over concentrating on church doctrines.

He disclosed that, as part of an affiliation of the Ghana Bible College and the Sunset International Bible Institute in the USA, the College will begin a Bachelor’s Degree in Sacred and Church Ministry from January.

Sandwich courses tailored to meet the demands of the time, especially to suit the working class, will be introduced very soon to encourage many more people interested in Church Ministry to enroll.

The Headmaster of the Church of Christ Senior High School at Adadientem, Cosmos Owusu Afriyie, who is also the Minister in charge of the Oforikrom Church of Christ in Kumasi, described as regrettable, a creeping tendency leading to a division in the church along matters of opinion and faith.

He also expressed concern about the situation where some of the church’s Ministers are preaching contrary to what they learnt at school.

Evangelist Owusu Afriyie asked the church to intercede on behalf of the Minister to keep them strong in faith and beliefs in God.
