CONSTITUENCY DIALOGUE SERIES MAKING IMPACT-NCCE

The National Commission for Civic Education, NCCE, has expressed satisfaction with the impact being made through its Community Dialogue series in the Ashanti region.

The Dialogue is an interactive forum created by the NCCE to allow the constituents engage their respective Parliamentary Candidates across the 47 Constituencies in the region.

It brings together on one platform the various Candidates to spell out their development plans for the constituencies, while creating the opportunity for the electorate to seek clarification on some pertinent issues of their areas.

The Dialogue is being funded by the European Union and aims mainly to deepen grassroots participation in the electoral process.

Speaking in an interview with Ashanti Today in Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional Director of the NCCE, Alhassan Yakubu, noted that aside the general issues of concern to the Ghanaian electorate captured through a recent survey ahead of next month’s Presidential and Parliamentary elections, the Community Dialogue platforms have also helped to bring to the fore certain critical issues worrying the people and requiring the attention of duty bearers.

Mr. Yakubu said the electorate in the Manso Nkwanta and Amansie Central Constituencies in particular, want urgent and pragmatic solutions to the galamsey menace, which according to them, is seriously destroying their arable lands.

They are also worried about the unreliable supply of potable water in these constituencies also due to the destruction of the sources of water, as a result of the uncontrolled gold mining.

Mr. Yakubu expressed satisfaction with the cooperation and participation of both the Parliamentary Candidates and the electorate, saying that out of the 47 Constituencies, only 14 are yet to be covered, adding that all the Constituencies would be offered the same opportunity before this month ends.

Touching on other strategies of the Commissions as part of its public education strategies, the Regional NCCE Director disclosed that the Commission will employ the use of Cinema Vans and other media to educate the electorate to turn out in their numbers on December 7 to help choose the next President and Parliamentarians in an atmosphere of peace and safety.
