LEAKAGE-FREE 2016 BECE ENDS

This year’s edition o the Basic Education Certificate Examination, BECE, has ended at all the designated Centres across the country.

For the first time in many years, the examination has been largely successful without any reported leakage of the questions.

The Ashanti region presented the highest number of candidates for the Examination with a total of 91 thousand, 349 registered candidates, showing an increase of four per cent over last year’s number.

Forty-six thousand, 931 boys and 44 thousand, 418 girls were registered for the five-day examination at 349 Centres in all the 30 administrative districts of the region.

However, Most of the exam Centres recorded absenteeism as some of the registered candidates failed to turn up with varied reasons.

While some of them were reported sick, traveled or stopped school after their registration, others were pregnant and therefore felt uncomfortable to appear in public while others were absent without any reasons assigned.

In the Amansie West district for instance, out of the 10 pregnant registered candidates, only three turned up to write the exam while one boy died after his registration.

The West African Examinations Council, WAEC, and the Ghana Education Service have commended all the stakeholders for contributing to the success of the BECE.

They Public Affairs Director of WAEC, Sylvia Annor in an interview with Radio Ghana in Accra attributed the relative success of this year’s BECE to the strategies adopted by the Council backed by the active involvement of the Ministry of Education. She expressed optimism that the results would be released earlier.

On her part, the Director of Basic Education of the Ghana Education Service, Cynthia Bosomtwe also lauded the Ministry of Education, Regional Ministers and MMDCEs across the country for the interest they showed in the exam.
