Out of the two thousand, 947 final year Junior High School pupils in the Amansie West district of Ashanti who registered to write the ongoing Basic Education Certificate Examination, BECE, 10 of the girl candidates are reported pregnant with only three of them who have managed to write the examination.

The remaining seven pregnant girls were absent on the first two days when the Papers were written. One male registered candidate, named as Emmanuel Boateng, was also reported dead before the start of the exams.

This came to light during a familiarization tour of some of the Examination Centres in the district by the District Chie Executive, Alex Kwame Bonsu and the District Director of Education, Mrs. Dora Atimbira to see for themselves the atmosphere under which the BECE is being conducted.

The candidates, including one thousand, 383 girls, are writing the exam at eight Centres. The DCE, Kwame Bonsu urged the candidates not to fear but consider the BECE as part of their normal examinations only that this time around, the questions were set by other teachers other than their school teachers.

They should also do their best and come out with better grades.

In a related development, the Amansie West District Assembly has procured 600 pieces of dual desks and 20 sets of Teachers furniture at a cost of 161 thousand Ghana Cedis.

The furniture have been handed over to the District directorate of Education for onward distribution to needy schools.

The DCE, Alex Kwame Bonsu, disclosed that the Assembly has budgeted to procure a quantity of one thousand dual desks for schools in the district saying that the first 600 such dual desks form part of the plan.
