ARMED ROBBERS STRIKE AGAIN IN ASHANTI, METRO AGRIC OFFICER KILLED
The Kumasi Metro Agric Officer, Joseph Baah Tweneboah, has been shot to death by a suspected gang of armed robbers at his private residence at Abuontem New Site in the Bosomtwe district of Ashanti.
He was attacked by the three-member gang
at the entrance to his residence while returning from work.
The wife, Esther
Adomako, was also severely beaten by the robbers when they attacked the house
at about 7 pm yesterday, Tuesday, May 31.
The body has been deposited at the St. Michael’s
Hospital mortuary at Pramso, while police have started their investigation into
the matter.
Speaking to Ashanti Today this morning, the distraught
wife narrated that, just as one of their children was about to open the main
gate to the house, he screamed that armed robbers were in the house.
She said,
as she stepped out of the kitchen, the robbers asked her to hand over any money
they had while the husband was being brutally assaulted with machete.
The
robbers then walked them into their bedroom where they ransacked in search of
any available money.
After taking away the little amount they found, the
robbers then took her husband out and shot him before running away.
Later, a
distress call was made to the police who only arrived to find Mr. Baah
Tweneboah lying in a pool of blood dead.
They then took the body to the St.
Michael’s Hospital for safe keeping while some of them passed the night with
the family in the house.
At the time our Correspondent got to the house, a
large crowd of mourners and sympathizers had thronged the area either to
console the bereaved family or find out what exactly what happened.
Also at the
crime scene was a team of police personnel led by the Ashanti Regional Police
Commander, DCoP Nathan Kofi Boakye to start investigation into the
circumstances of the crime.
The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Bernard
Antwi Boasiako also came to the place to show sympathy to the wife since the
late Baah Tweneboah was also the local Polling Station Chairman of the party
before his sudden death.
He was also an Executive Member of the area’s
Landlords’ Association. DCoP Kofi Boakye held a meeting with the Landlords’
Association and assured them that the police will very soon increase their
visibility in that vicinity.
He also asked the Association to form a Community
Watchdog to complement the work of the police in providing security for the
residents.
