KSI READY FOR APPIAH'S UNITY MATCH

All is set for the Kumasi Unity match between Stephen Appiah Eleven and Asante Kotoko to be held at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium tomorrow.

The match, the first of two matches is being organized by former captain of the senior national males soccer team, Black Stars, Stephen Appiah as part of his campaign to promote national unity and peace before, during and after this year’s Presidential and Parliamentary elections scheduled for November 7.

At a media briefing by the event organizers, Primeval Media Consult in Kumasi, the General Coordinator of the Unity Matches, Anthony Baffoe, said about 10 internationally acclaimed footballers have confirmed their participation in the matches.

They will therefore arrive in Accra and thereafter fly to Kumasi, the venue for the first match tomorrow morning.

He named Edgar Davids of Holland, Scholl Campbell of England, Nwanko Kanu and Yakubu Ayigwemi both of Nigeria as some of the foreign players who will play in tomorrow’s game.

In addition, Stephen Appiah’s contemporaries in the Black Stars, Sule Muntari, Michael Essien, Laryea Kingson and John Mensah will also feature in the Kumasi match.

Mr. Baffoe explained that Appiah decided to include Kumasi in the Unity Matches as a show of his appreciation to the football fans for their outstanding support during the Black Stars’ qualifying matches that propelled Ghana to play at the FIFA World Cup football tournament for the first time in Germany in 2006.

The General Match Coordinator emphasized that the level of patronage of the Kumasi match will informed the organizers of whether or not to include Kumasi in next year’s matches.

The Communications Director of Primeval Media Consult, Jeffrey Asare said only media partners of the event will be allowed to run commentary on the matches and also conduct interviews with the players before and after the match.

However, other media practitioners would be allowed only to watch the match. The Head of the Baba Yara Sports Stadium Security, Chief Inspector Joseph Opare disclosed that about 225 security personnel from the Ghana Police Service, Fire Service, Bureau of National Investigation and the military will be deployed to protect life and property before, during and after the match.
