NO LAW BARS PASTORS FROM POLITICS-ASIEDU NKETIAH
Mr. Asiedu Nketiah |
He said by their status in the society, such leaders are considered
as the best arbiters and mediators in times of conflicts and upheavals in
society.
According to Mr. Asiedu Nketiah however, any religious leader or chief
who indulges in partisan politics seriously compromises his or her neutrality
and the ability to successfully mediate conflicts as well as their otherwise
genuine contributions towards the national discourse.
Mr. Asiedu Nketiah was
speaking at ceremony at Kuntanase to inaugurate an income generating project by
the Bosomtwe Constituency Executives of the party.
He noted also that, while Ghanaians have
religious and political freedom, God frowns on hypocrisy and therefore urged
such influential members of the society to remain truly neutral so as to have
the moral justification to point out ills in the society.
Touching on party
issues, the NDC general Secretary entreated all the members to undergo the
biometric registration so as to sustain their membership of the party.
He said
very soon, every member of the NDC will have the right to vote at every
election of the party in the selection of its leaders and representatives,
provided they are biometrically registered.
Mr. Asiedu Nketiah explained that
the policy to allow each member to take part in the decision making processes
of the party is to effectively discourage the use of monetary and material
things to influence the choice of leaders and parliamentary candidates, a
practice he condemned.
Mr. Asiedu Nketiah was emphatic that with a little more
hard work, the NDC can get even more than the targeted one million votes in the
Ashanti region in next year’s Presidential elections and therefore urged the
members and party sympathizers to up their campaign wherever they find
themselves.
