FULANI ROBBERS ARRETED

Five suspected armed Fulani men arrested and remanded into police custody for allegedly robbing passengers on board private and commercial vehicles at a section of the Esaase-Bokankye road are to re-appear in court next Wedneday. 

The suspects, Karim Yahaya, 28nd farmer, Ayoboa Ibrahim, a 29-year old labourer, Fuseini Hamidu, an 18-year old driver’s mate, Ibrahim Bukari,  39 and a cattle farmer as well as Michael Appiah Asare, a 23-year old taxi driver have been remanded by the Nkawie Circuit court on a charge of robbery.

Regional Police Commander, ACP Ampofo Duku explained that at about 5:15pm on the 3rd of this month, the suspects, with AK47 rifles, stopped a number of commercial and private vehicles and robbed the passengers of their belongings including unspecified sums of cash and mobile phones. 

ACP Ampofo Duku noted that suspects also shot and wounded one of the victims, Gabriel Amoah, a Methodist church Pastor at Aboabo in Kumasi who was driving a Golf saloon car with registration number GE 1488-Von the left ankle and also assaulted many others. 

According to ACP Ampofo Duku, although the Abuakwa District Police Command responded promptly to a distress call some few minutes after the incident by rushing to the robbery scene, the suspects had already escaped.   

The victims, in their respective vehicles, were then taken to the Abuakwa Police station to lodge official complaint and report to various medical facilities with medical forms for treatment. 

ACP Duku explained further that, upon police intelligence, all five suspects, now in police custody, were arrested on the 9th of this month at a Hotel near Agric Nzema in Kumasi.
