The General Secretary of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has noted that unemployment is not peculiar to Ghana. Rather, it is a global phenomenon afflicting all economies.
According to him, no
government anywhere in the world can single-handedly effectively address the
social problem for which reason most governments are now relying on business
innovative and creative ideas of entrepreneurs to help create job opportunities
for the teeming jobless people.
Mr. Asiedu Nketiah said this at a ceremony at Kumtanase
to officially open a job-creation project for members of the National
Democratic Congress in the Bosomtwe Constituency of the Ashanti region.
The
programme which was on the theme: “Creating Sustainable Jobs for the
Grassroots; 'The Responsibility of
Leadership” is an initiative of the new Executives of the Bosomtwe Constituency
of the NDC led by a Livestock and Poultry Specialist, Emmanuel Anokye De-Graft,
the Chairman.
The NDC General Secretary emphasized also the fact that no
government can employ all the school graduates of the country.
It is therefore
imperative for the paradigm of job creation attention be shifted from the
central government to entrepreneurs whose expertise is in business and
innovative ideas.
Mr. Asiedu Nketiah described the Bosomtwe Constituency as a
model for all the Constituencies of the party in the country and commended the
Executives for the initiative that seeks to empower the members economically.
On behalf of the National Executives of the NDC, he contributed a cash of two
thousand Ghana Cedis towards the project.
The Constituency Chairman of the
party, Emmanuel Anokye De-Graft explained that the project, which involves a
piggery and rabbitry is targeted at getting every party member in the
Constituency at least one pig or rabbit to start their own production for
self-employment in the next one year.
The Chairman said to achieve this, each
of the 10 Zones of the party in the Constituency will be provided with the
piggery and rabbitry project for replication in the various communities.
According to Mr. Anokye, the success of the project would enable the
Constituency to be financially self-reliant as well as boost the morale and
confidence of the members to work hard for the party’s agenda for the 2016
Presidential and Parliamentary elections.
