PREZ AKUFO-ADDO INAUGURATES KSI CITY MALL

President Akufo-Addo has officially inaugurated the 95 million Dollar Kumasi City Mall in the Ashanti region with emphasising on the critical role of the private sector towards the growth of the national economy and jobs creation.

According to the President, Ghana’s economy cannot grow at the desired rate to generate the thousands of employment opportunities long-wished for if the country continues to remain import-driven.

He noted that the Asempa Budget just approved by Parliament has deliberate policies to change the fundamentals of the economy to shift it from raw materials exportation to production towards industrialization and prosperity for all.

President Akufo-Addo urged the private sector to take full advantage of the friendly economic policies being implemented by the government to increase their investment in the economy to help stimulate growth.

He warned however, that in spite of the government desire to create the enabling environment for the private sector to thrive, foreigners must respect and comply with the laws and regulations especially in the retail sub-sector and warned that government will not tolerate any foreign investor who tries to stray into the retail business which has been reserved for the citizens.

He commended owners of the Kumasi City Mall for having confidence in the Ghanaian economy for which reason they have so far built about three Shopping Malls in Accra and now Kumasi.

President Akufo-Addo urged them to make it a policy to procure at least 20 per cent of all their wares from local sources.

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah, expressed excitement about the fact that the Ashanti region and Kumasi in particular also now has a Mall.

He noted that the strategic geographical location of Kumasi makes the city very conducive for trade and commerce and therefore invited the business community to explore viable areas for investment.

Mr. Osei Mensah urged owners of the Mall to construct the proposed three-star hotel and entertainment theatre that was originally part of the project.

The Chairman of the Kumasi City Mall, Kofi Sekyere, explained that the owners settled on Kumasi for the investment in recognition of the conducive business atmosphere adding that the Mall is already creating hundreds of jobs for the residents.
