CHECK USE OF CHEMICALS IN CROP PRODUCTION-MoFA URGED



An Agriculturist, Solomon Ahmed Agbovi, has urged the ministry of Food and Agriculture to take strict measures to curb the wrongful and excessive application of chemicals crops production at the detriment of human life.

 He explained that modern technology in agriculture is a means to reduce stress of farmers in production hence the introduction of equipment and agro chemicals but noted that farmers are abusing modernization.

 Speaking on the theme: “The Youth in Modern Agriculture’, during the SRC Week of the College of Tropical Agriculture, COTA, at Domeabra near Kumasi, Mr. Abgovi cautioned farmers of the dangers involved in the use of polluted water for irrigation.

 He commended both the SRC and administration of COTA for their campaign to promote consumption of organic foods by member of the society to reduce cases of food poison and save lives.

 The Rector of COTA, Samuel Owusu Takyi urged the youth to embrace farming as a profession and not economic activity for the poor. 

Mr. Takyi said farming serves as a source of livelihood and a major employment avenue for many people including the youth.

 He urged government to invest in agriculture so as to ensure food security and also to create jobs.
