The Agbogbomefia of Asogli in the Volta region, Togbe Afede, has been elected as the new President of the reconstituted National House of Chiefs with the paaramount chief the Abeadze in the Central region, Daasebre Kwebu Awudzi as his Vice.  They will serve for a four year renewable term.  The tenure of the 50-member National House of Chiefs ended a few weeks   ago and has since been reconstituted by new members elected by the 10 Regional Houses of Chiefs.  Each of the Regions has five representatives who will also serve for four years from now.  This arrangement is in accordance with the Chieftaincy Act of 2008, Act 759. The much touted rich culture and traditions of Asanteman were on full display today as hundreds of mourners and well wishers thronged the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi, the citadel of culture and tradition, today, Thu., Nov. 24, to observe the traditional One Week Observance of the death of the 13 th Asantehemaa, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem.  Asantehenmaa passed away on the 14 th of this month. The National Media Commission, NMC has called for intensive media coverage for the activities of the Electoral Commission and the issues involved in the electoral process, ahead of the December 7 general elections.  According to the Commission, it is about time the media, especially, the radio stations, which were more accessible to the electorates, gave prominence to educating the people on the electoral process as the country geared towards the polls.  The Executive Secretary of the Commission, George Sarpong, was presenting the election monitoring report of the Commission for the Ashanti Region from August to November this year, in Kumasi.  Mr. Sarpong said the media in the region had been giving much attention to political party activities as against that of the EC and its activities.  He therefore urged radio stations to channel a lot of airtime to the coverage of programmes of the EC. A rainstorm that accompanied about a downpour in parts of the Kumasi Metropolis yesterday has caused a substantial destruction to both private and public properties. However, no human casualty has so far been recorded but a number of households have been displaced.  The rains began at about 6.30 pm and lasted for about one and a half hours accompanied by an unusually strong wind.  The affected communities include Dadiesoaba, Asokwa, Ahodwo and Kaase.  A drive from the Asokwa interchange gives a clear sign of the extent of damage wreaked by the rains as countless number of giant bill boards have either completely collapsed or partially destroyed.  At one of the roadside fitting workshop at Asokwa located along the Interchange and the Ahodwo Roundabout, one of such bill boards had fallen on a salon vehicle brought for repairs.  At the Ahodwo Roundabout, the destruction caused by falling billboards was more pronounced.  Prominent a...
