RECONSTITUTED MMDAs INAUGURATION TODAY
Almost all the reconstituted Metropolitan,
Municipal and District Assemblies in the country are being inaugurated today.
There
are 216 MMDAs across the country.
However, election of new members for the reconstitution
of some of the Assemblies could not take place for various reasons.
The inaugural
ceremonies are to be performed by certain government appointees.
In the Ashanti
region, there are 30 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies.
All of
them will be duly inaugurated today within their respective jurisdictions after
which the Members will elect their Presiding Members.
The Assemblies are
constituted by elected representatives of the various electoral areas as are in
the metropolis, municipality or district, the Member of Parliament in the area,
the Presiding Member while the President has been mandated by the Constitution
to appoint 30 percent of the total membership.
The Heads of Government’s
decentralized Departments and Agencies are also ex-officio members.
So far, all
the DCEs who have spoken to Ashanti Today have
confirmed the readiness of their Assemblies for the inauguration.
A former Minister of Education, Mrs. Betty
Mould Iddrisu will inaugurate both the Kwabre and the Afigya Kwabre District
Assemblies at Kodie and Mamponteng.
Two persons
are contesting for the Presiding Membership.
The Minister for Health, Alex
Segbefia will inaugurate the Sekyere Central District at Nsuta, while a Deputy Minister for Education in
charge of Tertiary Education, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa is scheduled to outdoor
the Bosomtwe District Assembly at Kuntanase.
