(From L-R) Mr. Fosuhene, Mr. Debrah and Mr. Adem

The Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah has expressed excitement about the revamping of the defunct GIHOC Fibre Product Company popularly known as Jute Factory, years after it was put on the divestiture.

After paying a working visit to the project site at the industrial hub of Kaase in Kumasi, Mr. Debrah expressed satisfaction with the progress of the works to revive Ghana’s once sole jute sacks producer for the cocoa industry.

The Chief of Staff was conducted around the facility by the Project Consultant, Frank Fosuhene, and the Acting General Manager of Ghana Jute Mills Limited, Gariba Adem.

Already, more than 100 artisans have been engaged under four different contractors to work on the main administrative block, re-roofing of the main factory block, fencing around the entire factory and landscaping.

About 30 per cent of the old machinery in the defunct factory will be refurbished with new parts, to augment new machines and equipment yet to be installed, to make the company highly efficient when operations start in the first quarter of next year.

Speaking to Ashanti Today afterwards, Mr. Debrah expressed the satisfaction of the government about the eventual revival of the Jute Factory.

He was particularly upbeat about the job creation prospects the company will provide some of the youth in the country.

Also, the country will reduce its importation of the jute sacks for cocoa production.

Mr. Debrah stressed the fact that the private sector continues to be key to stimulating the national economy.

It is in recognition of this, that government is determined to provide the most congenial atmosphere, including making affordable credit to the private sector operators.
