ANOTHER FIRE OUTBREAK AT KSI CENTRAL MARKET


Fire last night gutted a section of the Kumasi Central Market destroying large quantity of goods worth thousands of Ghana cedis.

 Items destroyed in the nine affected stores include wax print, sewing machines and assorted sewing threads. 

The timely intervention by personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service from the Manhyia and KMA Stations stopped the fire from extending to nearby stores.

 This is the second time that the market to experience fire outbreak in the past three months. 

Causes of the fire are still under investigations, but the intermittent fire power outages at the area could be blamed for the incident. 

The fire started in one of the stores and before personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service could reach there, eight others had been caught by the fire around 11pm.

 It took the personnel about three hours to bring the fire under control. 

 A visit to the scene by Ashanti Today saw owners of the affected stores in uncontrollable tears with large number of people present to catch glimpse of the situation. 

One of the owners, Madam Akua Kaakyire said she had a telephone call that a section of the market was on fire. She rushed to the scene only to realize that her store and others had been razed down. 

The Zongo District Police Commander, Superintendent Adane Nyamekye told our correspondent that, the police patrol team was informed about the incident, so the police quickly rushed in to ensure that the area is protected from looting. 

Officials from the KMA are yet to visit the scene of the incident and see how best the affected persons could be assisted.
