15 PERSONALITIES SHORTLISTED FOR 3RD MILLENNIUM EXCELLENCE AWARDS
The Millennium Excellence Awards Foundation has
shortlisted 15 persons
both Ghanaians and foreigners to be honoured as laureates at the 3rd
Millennium Excellence Awards tentatively scheduled for December this year.
The award winners are to be recognized for their exceptional contributions in their respective chosen fields of endeavour.
The President of the Millennium Excellence Awards Foundation, Ambassador Victor Gbeho disclosed this to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi. Otumfuo Osei Tutu is theLife Patron of the Foundation.
The Millennium Excellence Awards Foundation, which is an initiative of a Ghanaian Diplomat, Ambassador Ashim Morten, was established 15 years ago to identify people, particularly Ghanaians, Africans in the Diaspora.
The Foundation, which is manned by people with high repute from varied professional and technical backgrounds, organizes the excellence awards every five years and that this year’s edition will be the third in the series.
For the first time, the awards will be organized in the Ashanti regional capital, Kumasi in appreciation and recognition of the significant contribution its Life Patron, the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu, continues to make to the progress of society.
It is expected to be held at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and will be characterized with a mini durbar of the chiefs and people of Asanteman to showcase the rich traditions and culture of the people.
The event, slated for the 11 the and 12th of December, will be graced by prominent international figures with Ghana’s President, John Dramani Mahama expected to be the Special Guest.
Ambassador Victor Gbeho told the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu that the occasion, which coincides with the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the Foundation, will be used to launch a book about the achievements of the organization and what it stands for.
Similarly, an Endowment Fund will be launched to be the permanent source of funding of the awards ceremony.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu entreated managers of the Foundation to sustain the high standards set in the choice of the caliber of award winners.
The Asantehene asked the Foundation not to always recognize politicians and personalities already in the limelight, but cast wide the scope of selection to include the yet to be recognized exceptionally hardworking technocrats, professionals and others in the areas of science, technology and even in thefields of trade and commerce.
