NATIONAL HOUSE OF CHIEFS, KMA ALSO MOURN DISASTER VICTIMS

As the country observes the third and final day of National mourning for last Wednesday and Thursday fire and flood disasters in Accra, two institutions have expressed their condolences to the bereaved families.

The National House of Chiefs in a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer, Stephen Owusu, on behalf of the President of the House, said members join Ghanaians to mourn with the grieving families and pray that God consoles them, and finds a place in his bosom for their departed loved ones.

The House commended the security agencies and government for the swift action and intervention during the disaster and urged Ghanaians to support those who were injured and stand by them in this trying moment.

The House called for concrete steps to be taken all Ghanaians to avoid similar situations, by observing and complying with rules and regulations governing sanitation.

The statement urged also city authorities to enforce building regulations so as to avoid the recurrent flooding in Accra and other parts of the country.

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly says it is shocked and devastated by the disaster.

A statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the Assembly, Godwin Nyame also expressed the condolence of the KMA to the families of victims who lost their lives, those rendered homeless and businesses that have experienced damages and losses.

It said it is indeed a trying moment for city managers not only in Accra, but in Ghana as a whole.

The statement however assured the Mayor of Accra and the Accra Metropolitan Assembly of the maximum cooperation and support of the KMA in whatever way, to manage the situation as well as brainstorm to find better ways of effectively and efficiently managing cities in the country to prevent such mishaps in future.
