GHANA BURNS FOUNDATION COMMENDS GOV'T.
The founder of
the Ghana Burns Survivors Foundation, Dennis Opoku Gyamfi has commended
President John Dramani Mahama for accepting the challenge of the fire incident
that occurred in Accra on the 3rd of this month.
Mr. Opoku Gyamfi also
commended the government for resolving to take up the hospital bills of the
victims.
Mr. Opoku Gyamfi made the commendation in an interview with GBC’s Ashanti regional FM, Garden City Radio in Kumasi.
He explained that burns is a very
devastating form of injury which affects the individual physically, emotionally
as well as psychologically.
Another worrying aspect of the situation, according
to him, is when promises made to by concerned people to take up their medical
bills become empty promises.
Mr. Opoku Gyamfi noted that most burns victims are
shunned by the society thereby leaving them to their own fate.
According to
him, some of the victims also lose their jobs, spouses and relations.
In such times the victims become lonely
during which periods some of them ponder over committing suicide as the best
way out of their troubles.
He used the opportunity to encourage surviving
victims of the Accra fire disaster that there is hope for them and urged them
to join the Burns Foundation.
The founder of
the foundation appealed to the government to help establish a rehabilitation
center and provide them with the necessary resources such as mobile vans to
facilitate their activities.
This he believes will help them to regain their
self-confidence and self-worth to live normal lives.
