LISTOWEL DARES GJA
The
embattled Ashanti Regional GJA Chairman, Listowel Yesu Bukarson says the Ghana
Journalists’ Association is yet to formally communicate the its decision asking
him to step down to him.
According to him, he has only heard of the issue
through the media adding that when contacted this morning, the National
President of the Association, Affail Monney denied making any such claim.
He
has also challenged the leadership of the Association to invoke the law that
bars him from contesting a parliamentary seat on the ticket of a political
party, if there is any.
Mr. Bukarson was
speaking to GBC’s Garden City Radio in Kumasi in reaction to a decision by the
GJA asking him to step aside for allegedly violating the Association’s ethics.
But Mr. Bukarson emphasized that he will be surprised if the rumours is
eventually confirmed.
According to him, any such decision will be against the
tenets of the current Constitution of the Association since, according to him,
the GJA Constitution is silent on such matters.
Mr. Bukarson noted that he has not and will not be distracted by the
speculation and that the rumour has rather challenged him to hold on to the
position and even contest the next regional GJA elections.
He said when
contacted, the President of the Association, Dr. Affail Monney denied asking
the Ashanti Regional GJA Chairman to step down and that he has been misquoted
by the media.
The President of the Ghana Journalists’ Association, Affail
Monney told Radio Ghana in an interview yesterday that the Association has
asked its Ashanti Regional Chairman, Listowel Yesu Bukarson, to step aside.
This follows his decision to contest the Builsa North seat in the just ended
NPP Parliamentary primaries.
In an interview with Radio Ghana, the President of
GJA, Dr. Roland Affail Monney, said the decision was taken because Mr. Bukarson
violated the ethics of the Association.
