FAKE EVANGELIST CHARGED WITH CAUSING FEAR AND PANIC
A Kumasi-based
self-acclaimed Evangelist, Alhassan Ibrahim, is still in police custody as a
result of his failure to have anyone to stand surety for his bail condition
after the Ashtown District Court granted him bail.
The Evangelist appeared
before the Ashtown District Court yesterday on charges of causing fear and
panic initiated by the Ashanti Regional Police Command.
According to the Deputy
Ashanti Regional Police Commander, ACP Ampofo Duku, Evangelist Ibrahim was
arrested by the Police for claiming on a Kumasi-based private radio station
that he is a born again hardened criminal who had informants and collaborators
within the top hierarchy of the Ghana Police Service.
According to the Deputy
Regional Police Commander, last week, Evangelist Ibrahim, while giving his
self-confessed testimony on Sunsum FM, claimed that he entered into armed
robbery at age 10 and and remained in it until he became the Leader of
armed robbers in Ghana.
ACP Ampofo Duku said the man also claimed to have links
with top Police officials who not only supplied him with information of
operations but importantly, arms for their robbery expeditions.
Additionally,
the self-acclaimed Evangelist alleged that he once killed a pregnant woman
whose heart he took away to far away Benin for rituals to fortify himself in
the armed robbery.
It was after his
allegations on the radio station that the Police invited him to assist them to
investigate those claims to enable them to take the most appropriate action on
the matter, especially to unravel his allies in the police service.
ACP Ampofo
Duku said the man could however not substantiate his allegations only to claim
that the testimony is his way of winning souls for Christ.
ACP Ampofo Duku said the man
is healthy mentally.
It was for this reason that the Police preferred the
charge of causing fear and panic among the public with the view to protecting
the larger society from similar minded people.
