SAMIRA BAWUMIA CUTS SOD FOR 1ST EVER NPP REGIONAL OFFICE COMPLEX
Wife of the Vice President, Hajia Samira Bawumia, has cut sod for construction
of a permanent Regional Office complex for the ruling New Patriotic Party, NPP,
in Ashanti.
The office is being funded jointly by the Ashanti Regional Chairman
of the party, Bernard Antwi Boasiako and the Chief of Agric Nsemaa near Kumasi,
Nana Sasraku Boadu Ayeboafo.
Since
the formation of the New Patriotic Party, NPP in 1992, the regional branch of
the party has been operating from one rented premises to another with the
current regional office at New Tafo in Kumasi rented in 2016 for 10 years
by the current Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako.
It is to protect the
funds of the party that Mr. Antwi Boasiako affectionately called Chairman Wontumi
has teamed up with the chief of Agric Nsema near Kumasi, Nana Sasraku Boadu
Ayeboafo who is also a businessman, to finance the construction of a permanent
Regional Office complex.
The office, a three-storey building with offices for
the regional party executives among other facilities, located at Dadiesoaba in
the Subin Constituency in Kumasi, will
cost thousands of Ghana Cedis and is expected to be completed by 2020.
At the
sod-cutting ceremony were high profile NPP and government functionaries most of
who made pledges in material and financial contributions towards completion of
the project.
In an address, wife of Vice President, Hajia Samira Bawumia assured Ghanaians that the country will witness a massive socio-economic transformation by the end of the four-year term of the government of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and therefore called for the support of all the people.
She said party politics is about commitment, loyalty and patience. She said government is working very hard to address the socio-economic challenges facing the country and that by the end of 2010, Ghanaians will witness a substantial transformation of the country and reduce poverty. Hajia Samira called for calm and forbearance among the rank and file the NPP and support the government to attend to their concerns in due time.
The brain behind the project, Chairman Wontumi, said the building
will be named after
one of the stalwarts of the formation of the New Liberation
Movement, a fore runner
of the present day NPP, Baffour Osei Akoto, who was
also one time Chief Linguist of
the Asantehene in appreciation for his immense contribution
towards the party in the
region.
He said the project is his fulfilment of the
heart desires of many of his predecessors
and therefore commended all his
forebears for their contributions towards sustenance
and growth of the party.
The Acting National Chairman of the NPP, Freddie Blay, described the project as
historic and expressed joy that it has come during his tenure.
He assured members
of the party that everything possible is being done to sustain the
party in
government for a longer time and appealed for the cooperation of everyone
connected
to the party.
In a remark, children of the late Baffour Akoto Osei led by Owusu
Bempah Akoto,
thanked the party for honouring the memory of their late party
and appreciating his
contribution to not only the NPP but politics in the
country.
