WOMEN UNDER SIEGE IN ASHANTI, TWO MURDERED IN A WEEK
A Newscaster of a Bekwai-based private radio
station, Portia Agyeiwaa Kodie, has been killed by unknown assailants at her
rented apartment at Bekwai in the Ashanti region.
Confirming the incident to
Ashanti Today in a telephone interview, the General
Manager of DESS FM, Gordon Donkor, said the he was informed about the news at
about 7 pm yesterday, Sunday April 15, hours after
Agyeiwaa Kodie had left the office.
He said circumstantial evidence at the
scene of the incident points to the fact that she was stabbed just beneath the
ribs on her left side where the heart is located leading her to bleed profusely.
Mr. Donkor indicated also that Agyeiwaa Kodie is believed to have
struggled with her assailants and that her two phones had been taken away.
The
General Manager noted that the deceased was employed by DESS in November last
year as both a Newscaster and a Front Desk Officer and that she reported to
work yesterday, Sunday April 15 and left at about 4.30 pm.
She is a native of
Asante Mampong.
Her body has since been deposited at the Bekwai Municipal
Hospital morgue pending police investigation.
Meanwhile, the Bekwai District
Police Commander, DSP Edward Obeng Boateng, has confirmed the suspected murder
of the Newscaster but told Ashanti Today
that the Police have just begun investigation into the matter.
The latest
incident follows a similar suspected murder case at Aduaben in the Bosomtwe
district also of Ashanti exactly a week earlier.
In the
Aduaben murder, a self-employed 40 year old lady, Efua Akyere, was attacked at
about 1 am on the 7th of this month few hours after she had closed from
work.
She was tied in both the legs and arms and strangled to death and.
One person has been arrested by the Feyiase Police.
