GOV'T. SUPPORT SANITATION INITIATIVES

The Ministry of Inner Cities and Zongo Development is to partner Clean Team Ghana, a Ghanaian organization to provide household toilet facilities to densely populated areas across Ghana. 

The sector minister, Boniface Abu-Bakr Saddique made this known in Kumasi during a working visit learn at first hand, the impact made by the organization so far at Ashanti New Town, Aboabo, Asokore Mampong, Tafo and Ayigya in an d around Kumasi. 

Mr. Boniface Saddique described the project was timely saying that it has the potential to address open defecation and its attendant health crisis. 

He emphasized that the ministry is ready to pilot the initiative and replicate it in other unserved areas based on the success rate. 

The Chief Executive of Clean Team Ghana, Peter Townsley explained that the nature of the container-based mobile toilet does not pose any threat to personal hygiene and environmental safety saying that it is operated and maintained in accordance with sanitation regulations. 

He noted also that the organization has targeted to deploy 10 thousand mobile toilets in Kumasi by the year 2020.

THE STATE OF KUMASI'S 'INDUSTRIAL AREA

The once Industrial enclave of the Ashanti region within the Kumasi metropolis is fast losing its status as the nerve centre of jobs for the people.     This is due to the collapse of most of the companies in quick succession in  the last few years for various reasons. Background Industrialization was a key component of the first wholly indigenous government of Ghana led by Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. New Campus of the Kwamang Presby SHS The Kwamang Presby Senior High/Technical School in the Sekyere Central district of Ashanti needs an urgent external intervention to address some of its pressing basic needs to function very well.  A visit by Ashanti Today to the school’s premises revealed that the school does not have an administrative block to administer affairs of the school for which reason the Headmistress, the Bursar and another staff are sharing one room which has been partitioned, while the Assistant Headmaster, the rest of the Accounts staff among other administrative officers are also working from an improvised classroom.
