AHWIAA CONFLICT DEVOID OF ETHNICITY, ET AL-MINISTER
The Minister
for Inner Cities and Zongo Development, Boniface Abu-Bakr Saddique has assured
that calm has been restored to Ahwiaa and its surrounding areas in the Kwabre
East district of Ashanti where a recent violent clash between some irate youth
groups claimed one life.
Mr. Saddique gave the assurance in a press briefing in
Kumasi after meeting youth groups, some traditional and religious leaders at
Ahwiaa, Ntonso and Aboaso to fashion out ways to neutralize the seeming tension
there and maintain peace for development.
Already, basic schools at Ahiwaa
which closed in the heat of the conflict have re-opened with residents also going
about lawful routine activities.
The Minister was satisfied that there is still
security presence in the town to maintain the peace.
Mr. Saddique described the
cause of the latest deadly clash at Ahwiaa as petty and that the issue should not
be linked to ethnic, religious or political feud.
He therefore entreated the
media to be circumspect in their reportage.
Mr. Saddique noted that conflicts
are a major drain on the public purse at the expense of socio-economic
development.
He therefore advised particularly youth in Zongo communities to
desist from social vices including drug abuse which usually stimulates them to
engage create confusion in society.
