MANHYIA ANNOUNCES PRE-BURIAL PLANS FOR LATE ASANTEHEMAA, WARNS RESIDENTS




The Manhyia Palace in Kumasi has announced the pre and burial arrangement for the late Asantehemaa, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem The Second, beginning from Monday, the 16th to Thursday, the 19th of this month in Kumasi.

 The four-day programme will revolve around the lying in state of the mortal remains of the late Asante Queenmother who passed away on the 14th of November last year in Kumasi. 

Announcing the programme at a News Conference in Kumasi today, Friday 6th Jan., the Chief Linguist of the Asantehene, Nana Nsuase Poku, said the event will begin at dawn of the 16th when the body will be opened for public viewing, starting with the paramount chiefs and members of the Asanteman Traditional Council to pay their last respect to her. 

On the same day, the Asantehene and biological son of the late Nana Afia Serwaa Kobi Ampem, Otumfuo Osei Tutu will also file past and pay his last respect to the late mother before sitting in state to receive well wishers. 

Members of the public will then have their turn to view the body on Tuesday, while national and foreign dignitaries will have their time on Wednesday, the 18th

According to Nana Nsuase Poku, on Thursday the 19th, the mortal remains will be conveyed to the Saint Cyprian’s Anglican Cathedral at Fante New Town for a requiem, during which only accredited persons will be allowed entry into the church auditorium due to security arrangements. 

He said a giant television screen will be mounted for all interested persons to monitor proceedings of the requiem at the Jubilee Park. 

Otumfuo’s Chief Linguist warned that between 6 pm of Thursday and daybreak of Friday the 20th, when the body will be leaving the Bantama Royal Mausoleum for the interment at the Breman Royal Mausoleum, "every resident including animals must remain indoors to avoid any unfortunate incident." 

Touching on other arrangements made, Nana Nsuase Poku said very tight security arrangement and parking plan for the vehicles of visiting dignitaries have been made.
