KATH LAUNCHES GHC 120M ENDOWMENT FUND

An 11-member Board of Trustees has been set up by the Board of Directors of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital with the oversight responsibility of managing the Hospital’s Endowment Fund, an initiative to raise funds to address the operational challenges of the hospital.

The Trustees have the mandate to encourage public-spirited individuals and organizations to support the hospital to achieve its goal in the health delivery system.

Members of the Board of Trustees include Kwabena Kesse of Kessben Group of Companies, Nana Adwoa Dokua, Managing Director Beauty Queen Hotel, Dr. K. K. Sarpong, CEO of Ghana National Petroleum Corporation, Ahaji Kamil, a private Business Executive and Opoku Boamah, CEO of Opoku Trading Limited.

Others are Mrs. Gyamfua Owusu-Akyaw, Ashanti and Bono Ahafo Regional Chairperson of Association of Ghana Industries, Mrs. Akuamoah-Boateng, a Health Development Consultant, Charles Dontoh, Dr. Kofi Osei and Dr. Oheneba Owusu-Danso, Chief Executive of Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

Speaking at the launch of the Fund in Kumasi, the Chief Executive of KATH, Dr. Oheneba Owusu Danso said the hospital needs 120 million Cedis to tackle the resources required to improve both infrastructure and equipment at the hospital, describing the initiative as a timely intervention.

He said though the Board and the Management are doing their best to address some of the challenges of the hospital, the Internally Generate Funds alone cannot resolve all the operational bottlenecks facing the hospital.

Dr. Owusu-Danso said apart from the 120 million Cedis, the hospital also needs a projected 140 million Dollars for the completion of the hospital’s 43 year Maternal and Children’s block which the government has pledged to complete in the next two years. The Board Chairman of KATH and Paramount Chief of Bompata Traditional Area, Nana Effah Apenteng appealed to the general public to contribute generously towards the endowment fund.
