CHINA INVESTMENT IN GHANA SOARS

The Chinese government has lauded the ever improving bilateral cooperation and relations as well as political trust between China and Ghana in the last 18 years. This development has culminated in an increase in the volume of China’s trade investment in Ghana from 100 million Dollars in the year two thousand to six point-seven billion Dollars as at the end of 2017.

The Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, Shi Ting Wang, made this known in Kumasi when he led a delegation from his Embassy to donate electronic gadgets valued at 20 thousand Dollars plus a cheque for 20 thousand Dollars to the National House of Chiefs towards implementation of the House’s digitization project. The donation was the Embassy’s response to a request by the National House of Chiefs for support towards the digitization project.

The Chinese Ambassador enumerated strategic sectors of the Ghanaian economy where China has made substantial investment with the view to propelling the Ghanaian economy. Among them are funding for construction of the Bui hydroelectric Dam in the Brong Ahafo region, Sunon Asogli Power Plant, the Atuabo Gas Plant in the Western region, telecommunication backbone networks as well as support for establishment of the Africa World Airlines, AWA, a private commercial air transport company.

According to Mr. Shi Ting Wang, aside from such investment, "Ghana has become the largest origin of African students in China for consecutive years, which attracts attention from Africa and the world."

The Ambassador noted, that the two countries are now "standing at a new historical starting point" and explained that, while his home country is making unrelenting efforts to realize her ‘two centenary goals’, Ghana, on the other hand, is seriously pursuing an Agenda beyond external aid.

Mr. Shi Ting Wang said China owes its current outstanding economic achievements to reform and open-up policy within the last 40 years during which period that country has attained an annual growth rate of nine point-five per cent with more than "700 million of her people already lifted up of the poverty" zone.

China, he said, has again achieved the enviable status as the world’s second largest economy, the largest industrial producer, and the global largest market with an additional record as the world’s holder of the largest foreign exchange reserve. The Ambassador asked that, as China continuous to open its doors to other countries, Ghana takes advantage of the opportunity to advance her development agenda.
"Rome was not built in one day, development isn't an easy task. I deeply believe that, with the joint efforts of our two government and peoples, China-Ghana relations will definitely embrace a better tomorrow", Mr. Shi Ting Wang concluded.
