The National Identification Authority, NIA, has taken its pilot Ghana Card registration exercise to the Ashanti region where they are registering members of the National House of Chiefs.  Registration of the Chiefs, who are from all the regions of the country is at the instance of the National House of Chiefs for the NIA to take advantage of the House 3rd General Meeting of the year.  According to our regional correspondent even though the chiefs have shown enthusiasm and high interest in procuring their Ghana Card, a greater number of them could not take advantage of the opportunity following the late communication to them to come along with required documents for the registration process.  However, some of them and their subjects as well as some staff of the National House of Chief’s Secretariat successfully registered and received their Ghana Cards.  Among them are the immediate past President of the National House, Naa Professor John Nabila, the vic...

The National House of Chiefs has waded into the controversy surrounding the aspiring National Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party, NPP, Freddie Blay’s acquisition of a band new urvan bus for each of the 275 Constituencies of the party in the country.  President of the House, Togbe Afede, questioned the source of funding and motive for the gesture and suggested that the Office of the Special Prosecutor takes interest in the matter. The National Petroleum Authority has embarked on a nationwide stakeholder consultation on the government’s LPG Cylinder Re-circulation policy to engender cooperation and support to ensure a smooth implementation.  During a meeting with the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi, the Chief Executive Officer of the NPA, Hassan Tampuuli, emphasized the fact, that a Local Content Policy developed by Cabinet mandates only Ghanaians to be involved in the Re-circulation.  The NPA’s two attempts this year to implement the LGP Cylinder Re-Circulation policy have not been successful following stiff opposition from members of the Ghana LPG Operators Association who fear that they would be thrown out of business if the policy is allowed to take off.  This is what has caused the NPA to engage in wider stakeholder consultation to engender public cooperation and support for a successful implementation. Emmanuel Oduro Mensah of the Ashanti region has won the Seniors’ category of the Ashanti and Brong Ahafo Zonal Athletics Open Championship.  Kate Agyemang emerged the winner in the Women category. They will represent the Zone at the grand finale of the Ghana’s Fastest Human Athletics Championship to be held in Kumasi later this month.  The Ashanti and Brong Ahafo Zonal Athletics Open Championship is in search of this year’s Ghana’s Fastest Human which is under the sponsorship of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation, GNPC.  The seven-year athletics programme is aimed at discovering and grooming potential athletes to compete for the nation at all levels.  The Championship is opened to males and females in various age categories in the Under-10, Under-15, Under-18 and Seniors.
